Description
For Summer 2023 there will be three Mixed Media Art camps:
- all three camps are mixed student ages, 6yo-13yo
- all three camps combine sculpture, clay, paper, paint and artist study
- all three camps are week long camps with an optional 30 minute lunch period with friends after camp
- all three camps have an art show exhibit on the final class day for parents to attend
Please note: To have all the student sculptures & artworks ready for the final day art show exhibit, all student projects completed throughout the week will stay with the teacher until the last day of camp. On the last day of camp, all artworks and sculptures may be taken home by the students after the Art Show.

Artist Study Correlation:

In Under the Sea, some of artists we will learn about are:
- Pippa Dyrlaga, is a British paper cutting master artist. She creates art using a method called kirigami which is created from a single sheet of paper and incorporates folds and detailed cuts. Her intricate nature-inspired illustrations are all hand-cut from single pieces of white paper.
- Sandra Hutter, is an Illustrator and Surface Pattern Designer, based in Vienna, Austria. She creates colorful, bold, and feel-good artwork that can be found on lots of printed products, such as fabric, wallpaper, gift wrap, home decor, apparel, greeting cards, and much more.
- Mulyana, is an Indonesian artist known for his colorful crocheted coral worlds of fun characters inspired by the television shows of his youth. Each piece is knit or crocheted with recycled, brightly colored yarn, which he fashions into sprawling ecosystems and immersive installations that dangle from the ceiling.
In Architect Lab, some of artists we will learn about are:
- Tracey English, is a London-based illustrator and surface pattern artist who loves to collage with hand painted papers. She is inspired by nature, the environment, and pattern.
- Mary Blair, was an impactful US artist and animator who brought fairytales to life through dreamy concept art and color styling. She introduced Modernism to Disney’s animation studio, helping to create the artistic style for films such as Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan.
- Friedensreich Hundertwasser, was one of Austria’s most famous avant-garde artists. His artworks reflect his philosophy, which is based on a harmonious interaction between nature and man. His architectural projects created organic, irregular forms that molded into the natural landscape.
In Fun with Food, some of artists we will learn about are:
- Mike Bouchet, is a US born, German artist. Since the early 1990’s he has created artwork in a variety of forms including paintings, sculptures, installations, actions, and performances. He specializes in photo realistic oil paintings of everyday items.
- Jim Bachor, is a Chicago mosaic artist is known for filling potholes with small, colorful mosaics. He uses hundreds of pieces of Italian glass and marble that he cuts to create the mosaics, which he installs on the ground to beautify unsightly city streets.
- Jonpaul Douglass, is a Los Angeles based photographer and street artist known for his colorfully playful work that has been featured with big brands like Google.
Loose Breakdown of Days:
Day 1-
- 1st hour: We will start on project 1.
- 2nd hour: We will start on project 2.
- extra time/early finish: project 4.
Day 2-
- 1st hour: We will start on project 3.
- 2nd hour: We will continue work (part 2) on project 1.
- extra time/early finish: project 4.
Day 3-
- 1st hour: We will continue work (part 2) on project 2.
- 2nd hour: We will continue work (part 2) on project 3.
- extra time/early finish: project 4.
Day 4-
- 1st hour: We will continue work (part 3) on project 3.
- 2nd hour: We will continue work (part 3) on project 2.
- extra time/early finish: project 4.
Day 5-
- 9:30-11am: Add finishing touches on all projects. If time allows, we’ll work on a quick fifth/sixth project.
- 11am-12pm: STUDENTS: longer lunch/hangout with friends
- 11am-12pm: TEACHER: set up for art show
- 12:15pm-12:45pm: Student Art Show! On the last day of camp we will have an art show/exhibit that parents can come see all of the projects the students have done.
- 12:45pm: pack up/clean up
Location:
Camp location is in LEESBURG, VA and will be emailed to parents after enrollment.
Supplies:
All supplies will be provided.

In all camps, students will gain further understanding of the elements of art and the principles of design regarding composition. They will also explore a variety of artists, techniques, art processes, and materials including, but not limited to, sculpture, color theory, modeling, mixed media, assembly, painting, and two & three-dimensional design.

Please note:
- All of my art classes are open to all religions, races, ethnicities, and diverse backgrounds. All are welcome in my classes.
- I cannot guarantee that the artspace is free of allergens, but the space will be wiped down and sanitized before and after class each week.
- Lunch Period: after class there is an open 30 minute lunch time from 11:30am-12:00pm. Feel free to have your child pack his/her lunch and stay to eat with friends! Parents are welcome too.
